King Street offers 24-hour high-support room-and-board housing to individuals who require support in various areas such as activities of daily living (e.g. cooking, cleaning), accessing services and managing their medications. The building stands three stories tall and includes 20 units (18 independent rooms and 2 shared), with shared washroom facilities and a large private outdoor space. The program provides meals and snacks from a full-time cook, as well as cleaning services for units and common areas. King Street encourages community among its tenants by remaining inclusive to all within as well as outside the building.
Components
Tenants at King Street have access to:
- 24-hour residential support;
- A meal program;
- Cleaning services for units and common areas;
- Assistance with medication management and activities of daily living (e.g. cooking and cleaning);
- Planned socio-recreational activities/events within the facility and broader community; and
- Peer support services.
In order to be eligible for Anderson House, it is required that client-members are receiving ongoing case management support. Case managers meet regularly with client-members to:
- Complete assessments to identify (and later reassess) needs, strengths and recovery goals;
- Develop a plan for services which incorporates client-member goals and values, and focuses on priority areas of need (such as housing, education, social relationships, employment, daytime activities and health-related issues);
- Connect client-members to outside resources and services through referrals and/or community engagement;
- Facilitate and coordinate access to services, including consulting other individuals and agencies within a person’s circle of care (with the consent of the client-member);
- Provide supportive counselling in order to assist client-members in achieving personal recovery goals; and
- Advocate for client-member rights both on an individual and systemic level.
